Entrepreneurs love it, large corporations love it, universities and now even governments love it. Welcome to the exciting and emerging world of the Internet of Things (IoT). Decades ago, we connected computers and got today's powerful Internet. However, it's only been over the last few years that we've started to connect everyday objects using machine-to-machine (M2M) technologies, to create the Internet of Things. But what does this really mean to you or your company?
What are the possibilities it offers, and the threats it poses? In this course, you'll be able to understand the content behind Industry 4.0 - the fourth industrial revolution. Being equipped with the fundamentals and practicalities taught here makes you an insider into this quickly growing industry and of great value to potential employers.
Over three weeks, you'll be equipped with business insights to help you become an Internet of Things wizard. We'll take you on a journey, exploring the entrepreneurial aspect of the Internet of Things. We'll ask questions like: 'What makes an exciting Internet of Things product?' We'll look at the shockingly fragmented wireless connectivity landscape and discuss why so many mistakes have been made in connecting your 'things'. In addition, we will consider the security and privacy aspects of the IoT realm.
As a final project in the course, you will create a simple home automation tool with a Particle Proto-Board as the hardware and write the software for the device using Particle Build (a web based IDE).
Intro to Internet of Things is offered as a three-week course. Class is held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. The cost of the class is $1,200 and includes a Particle Maker Kit.
